Adds Distinctive Touch to Westlake Golf & Country Club
(JACKSON, N.J.) – When U.S. Home and Toll Brothers developed plans for
Westlake Golf & Country Club, their original plans called for more
traditional railings on the decks and staircases of the elegant
35,000-square-foot clubhouse.
When they
learned of the cost, maintenance and aesthetic advantages of vinyl
railing, they decided to switch to an elegant, custom-designed vinyl
railing system, with vinyl extruded by Kroy Building Products Inc., a
leading extruder of vinyl fencing, decks, railings and specialty exterior
building products.
“We decided to custom-design a railing that had not been seen before and
was unique to this building,” said Joseph Leary of VinyLast Building
Products of Lakewood, N.J. VinyLast, an authorized Kroy fabricator,
designed and installed the custom railing system for the multi-level
clubhouse, using Kroy’s large contoured railing product.
Instead
of the traditional railings that had originally been specified, VinyLast
proposed a custom-designed system. The new system features large contoured
vinyl railing profiles that create flowing contoured lines for a
historical look reminiscent of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The top
rail is a 4½-inch vinyl design with a 3-inch vinyl bottom railing offering
steel and aluminum reinforcements, supporting 2-inch vinyl pickets, and
mounted on 6½-inch vinyl posts with stainless steel towers inserts and
topped by large ball caps for a rich architectural look. The installation
required approximately 750 linear feet of vinyl contoured railing.
“The overall look was very massive and elegant, which was perfect for the
size of the building,” said Leary. In addition, he noted, the unique
design accommodated special routing and turning which enables the club to
install indirect lighting on the decks and staircases.
Kroy contoured vinyl railing provides a sculptured appearance while also
offering a more comfortable grip for added safety and good looks.
Available by special order to architects, contractors and other building
professionals, it is ideal for balconies, roof lines and trim in
residential, multi-family or commercial applications, especially in
hard-to-maintain upper areas.
Not only was the appearance of the vinyl system far more attractive than
traditional railing, it also provided a low-cost alternative that will
continue to save the club money for years to come. Like all vinyl products
from Kroy Building Products, the durable vinyl railing systems are made
from high-impact, weather-resistant polyvinyl chloride, which will never
rot, rust or corrode.
They are
impervious to insects, impact resistant, and will not chip, peel or
splinter – an important safety consideration in large public buildings.
The railings will never need scraping or painting, since their gleaming
white color is not painted on, but rather extends clear through the
product. This will enable the club to maintain the railings' fresh,
brand-new appearance for decades with little more than an occasional
rinsing with a garden hose.
All Kroy building products are backed by limited lifetime warranty,
another important factor in U.S. Home and Toll Brothers’ decision, Leary
noted.
“The installation took about six weeks to complete,” Leary said. “After
the job was completed the response was great – not only from U.S. Home and
Toll Brothers, but also from people buying homes in the country club
community.” In fact, the response was so enthusiastic that VinyLast has
been invited to bid on other projects in the community where the club is
located.
